Being married for 14 years, Brad and I are always on the lookout for ways to reconnect and spend time alone together. The girls are now 10 and 12 and we have my parents living in the same home so we often jet away overnight to see sights, have fab food and hold uninterrupted conversations. Choosing to take time for my marriage is important to me and in years gone by I would feel guilty about it but no more!
One of our favourite places to get away is Casino Rama Resort in Orillia, Ontario. We have been visiting Rama since they first built the casino 20 years ago. Since then it’s grown and changed into a gorgeous resort that is perfect for a fun getaway. Casino Rama Resort specializes in making sure you have FAB food, great entertainment and a room which is clean, comfortable and attractive.
We really enjoy casinos and have stayed in many hotel/casinos but Casino Rama is different in the overall feel of the experience. You get the quality of service you’d find anywhere in a rustic atmosphere that truly does have you feeling like you’ve left the hustle and bustle of the city, just an hour and a half away.
THE ROOM
For our weekend we stayed in the Deluxe King Suite which is massive! The decor of a Muskoka-style cottage is pulled into the suite and the feel is simply cozy. This hotel is composed of suites, each of which comes with a gas fireplace!
With a dining table, a living area, gas fireplace and a bedroom area this photo doesn’t quite do the size justice.
Brad and I spend time just lounging in the room watching movies because it was so comfy. Those mattresses are top-notch which is something that really matters to me. There is nothing worse than going away for a night and ending up with a hard or springy mattress!
ENTERTAINMENT
One of the things Casino Rama does best is their live entertainment! Their calendar of performers is utterly impressive. With acts such as Smokey Robinson, Pat Benatar, Billy Idol how can you go wrong?
The evening we stayed we were pleased to be able to see Boyz II Men. Ok pleased isn’t really the correct word for how I felt; it was like I was pulled back into my teen years and my younger self was squealing all the way to our seats! The venue is intimate and there’s not a bad seat in the house!
It was a complete thrill to hear the talent of Boys II Men!
Dining
Another highlight of our getaway was dining at St. Germaine’s Steakhouse at Rama. I’ve had the pleasure of eating there in the past so I knew we were in for a treat and couldn’t wait to heat what Brad thought as it was his first time.
If you’re looking to dine at Casino Rama resort on a show night, make sure to book a reservation early because they book up fast.
I am a HUGE, HUGE fan of St. Germaine’s! They serve amazing food and even know how to make delicious Mocktails. This was a virgin Mojito which is simply divine my friends!
For starters I enjoyed the Caesar Salad and Brad chose the Pan Roasted Diver Scallops and by the volume of the YUMS coming from our table I’m sure people thought we were a bit weird.
For our main course we both chose the Beef Tenderloin which simply melts in your mouth!
We paired this with a bunch of sides which included Pan Flashed Garlic Shrimp, Steamed Asparagus with Hollandaise, Sweet Potato Fries and Sautéed Local Mushrooms.
There are many food choices at Casino Rama Resort but honestly please do yourself a favour and book into St. Germaine’s because it’s SOOOO worth it!
There is so much more to Casino Rama Resort…the Spa where Brad enjoyed a massage, the pool and hot tub area…you really should check it out if you have the chance.
