Well, friends, it’s time to pull back the curtain on a new chapter of my life providing psychotherapy! This new chapter is layered with all the juicy elements of transformation, purpose, and, yes, a fair amount of frustration along the way. It’s been a while since I’ve shared a solid update, and for those of you who have stuck around this quirky corner of the internet for the past 14 years, thank you! You’re the real MVPs here. For those of you who are new, well… buckle up because the latest leg of my journey is filled with exciting shifts, like launching a practice as a Registered Social Worker offering psychotherapy services, specializing in addiction recovery and trauma-informed care.
So grab your favorite mug, settle in, and let me tell you about how this 50-something, seasoned (a.k.a. “well-marinated”) soul is finally diving into the career I’ve been inching toward for what feels like forever. Yes, folks, I’m officially a Registered Social Worker providing psychotherapy for trauma, addiction, and mental health!
Why the Shift?
Those of you who’ve followed my ups, downs, and sideways adventures know that I’m all about growth and lifelong learning. After years of work in corporate management, life coaching, and advocacy, I felt a stronger calling—a not-so-gentle nudge—to work directly in mental health. I wanted to gain the formal tools to help people with addiction recovery psychotherapy and trauma-informed support, focusing on culturally safe, inclusive mental health care.
Now, I won’t lie. Going back to school in my 50s felt a bit like showing up to a high-energy workout after years of sloth-like activity. But I’m thrilled to say I’m now completing my Master of Social Work at the University of Waterloo! And yes, I might be one of the “mature student” in the room, but I’m also the one who knows exactly where to find the best coffee on campus, so we all bring something to the table, right?

Why Social Work and Psychotherapy?
For me, this career shift isn’t just about a new role; it’s about aligning my life with a purpose I’ve felt for years. I’ve been privileged to support people through recovery as a coach and advocate, but now, as a Registered Social Worker, I can provide psychotherapy that’s grounded in clinical skills and designed to help people heal. My focus on addiction recovery psychotherapy and trauma-informed therapy allows me to offer targeted, compassionate support.
Working as a psychotherapist enables me to provide something many people struggle to find: a safe, affirming, culturally sensitive space for healing. This means supporting individuals not only through addiction recovery but through the deep work of addressing trauma, stress, and mental health challenges. It’s incredibly fulfilling to offer a space that allows people to feel seen and heard while embracing their unique path to healing and resilience. And yes, there’s plenty of room for humor because sometimes healing can be joyful too.
What This Means for My Online Presence
In case you hadn’t noticed, my blog and social media have been a bit quiet. But that’s about to change! I’m updating my online presence to reflect my focus on psychotherapy for addiction recovery and trauma-informed mental health care. You’ll see more content related to mental wellness, addiction support, and insights into culturally safe therapy. And for my long-time readers, don’t worry—there will still be plenty of humor, because I believe in finding lightness even in heavy topics.
So, if you’re looking for stories, resources, or just a bit of laughter on this journey we’re all on, stay tuned. And if you’re considering one-on-one support for your own healing, my virtual door is open.
How to Find Me (And Why You Should)
Whether you’re an old friend or a new one, I’m officially accepting private clients! I work for a clinical practice called Heart & Mind Psychotherapy, where I specialize in trauma-informed psychotherapy and psychotherapy for addiction recovery. I’m dedicated to creating an affirming, culturally safe space, especially for clients from Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities who may face additional barriers to care.
If you’re looking for compassionate mental health support in addiction recovery, trauma work, or culturally affirming care, my practice may be just what you need. I’m here to create a healing space where every individual feels valued and empowered to explore their wellness in ways that feel right to them. So if you’re curious, or if you just want to say “hi,” don’t hesitate to reach out.
Looking Forward, Moving Forward
This next chapter is about building something meaningful—not just for myself, but for every person I can support along the way. After years of twists, turns, and some solid lessons in resilience, I’m thrilled to be here today. To everyone who’s been a part of my journey, thank you for sticking around. And for those just joining, welcome to a world where psychotherapy, healing, and a bit of laughter intersect in one cozy corner of the internet.
